Therapeutic Approaches

Recent advances in neuroscience have shown that people are social beings who develop through interpersonal connection.  Research shows that the relationship between client and counsellor can often be healing in and of itself.  Therefore I place a particular importance on personal authenticity within the context of our relationship.  My approach to counselling is client focused. We will work together to develop a therapeutic approach that works best for you.  In my practice I draw from a variety of therapeutic methods based on what you want from our time together. These methods include:

  • Adlerian Therapy (A holistic, forward looking approach that considers each person within the context of their total experience).
  • AEDP (Draws on attachment research and affective neuroscience to create ‘held’ space for exploration and healing)
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (an empirically validated and evidence based treatment that alleviates a wide range of problems by helping patients to understand the thoughts and feelings that influence behaviors).
  • Mindfulness Therapy (a present-focused, compassionate approach that helps alleviate stress, manage distress, and increases clients’ ability to regulate emotions).
  • Collaborative Strength Based (Therapist and client work together to draw upon client competencies to facilitate positive change).
  • Brief Therapy/Solution-Focused (A pragmatic, optimistic, respectful therapeutic approach that focuses on desired outcomes).
  • EMDR (a psychotherapy utilizing eye-movements or other bilateral stimulation that enables people to heal from phobias or from symptoms and emotional distress resulting from disturbing life experiences).
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS; Evidence based model of psychotherapy that focuses on connecting with the various parts of us and mobilizing self energy to heal).
  • Sensori-Motor (A body centered psychotherapy particularly helpful in working with the effects of trauma and abuse, emotional pain, and limiting belief systems).
